Blessing in Disguise
When the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, a few members of Sendai Tour Guide Andante (STGA) were discussing the framework of a guide group that was to get off the ground soon. What kind of tour plans should we offer to clients? How much should be charge for guide work? Is there any way to publicize our activity to the public?
It took more than seven months to start our activities after the disaster in and around Sendai, which is located in the center of the affected area. We described what we saw and heard during the earthquake’s chaos to the tourists who came to see the affected areas.
The aim of STGA is not only to show visitors around the affected areas but also to guide them around Tohoku (northeastern Japan) region with its abundant nature. From ancient times, Tohoku has been referred to as “Michinoku”, literally meaning “the deep north of road”. During the late 17th century, Matsuo Basho, the master of haiku poetry made his journey to Tohoku to write his travelogue “the narrow road to the deep north”.
Just as the poet in ancient times traveled around Tohoku, we will take you to see similar scenic spots and meet local people there. As a result, we believe these activities will help promote the recovery of Tohoku.
About STGA
Our group consists of nationally-certified professional guides living in the Tohoku (northeastern) region of Japan. All members are happy to guide foreign tourists in foreign languages. We will guide you to many scenic spots introducing Japanese culture, history and so forth.
On top of that, meeting your requests, we will guide you to the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and areas outside of Tohoku region. It is our wish to make contribution to regional international exchange through our activities. We also cater to requests from travel agent, bus & taxi companies, hotels, and Japanese inns. | National License Guides are available at the following rates | Up to 2 hours : 13,200JPY |

- All prices include tax.
- An additional charge of 6,000 yen is required per extra hour.
- Transportation, meals, and accommodation costs for the duration of the assignment are borne by the party engaging the National License Guide(s).
- The services accompanying, interpreting, translation and other activities are available on the other rate list. Please ask for details.
- You can cancel without paying any cancellation fee up until 3 days before the scheduled date.
80% cancellation fee is charged after that.
The cancellation on the scheduled day is 100%.
